How to Create a New User on Windows 11

Creating a new user account on Windows 11 allows multiple people to use the same computer while keeping their files and settings separate. Follow these steps to create a new user account:

Step 1: Open Settings

  1. Click on the Start menu (Windows icon) at the bottom-left corner of your screen.
  2. Click on the Settings icon (gear icon). Alternatively, you can press Win + I on your keyboard to open the Settings app directly.

Step 2: Navigate to Accounts

  1. In the Settings app, click on Accounts in the left-hand sidebar.

Step 3: Access Family & Other Users

  1. In the Accounts settings, click on Family & other users.

Step 4: Add a New User

  1. Under the Other users section, click on Add account.

Step 5: Add a Microsoft Account or Local Account

  1. A new window will appear asking you to sign in with a Microsoft account. If you want to create a new Microsoft account user, enter the email address associated with the Microsoft account and follow the on-screen instructions.
  2. To create a local user account, click on I don't have this person's sign-in information.
  3. Click on Add a user without a Microsoft account.

  4. Click Next to create the new user account.

Step 7: Assign Account Type

  1. By default, the new user account is created as a Standard User.
  2. If you want to change the account type to Administrator, click on the new user account under the Other users section.
